Jason LaMont Scholarship:

VAC initiated the scholarship in honor of our founder's slain son. To date, 10 scholarships have been awarded to the loved one of a homicide victim.

 


JASON LAMONT SHARPE
1969-1990

Winner of Jason LaMont Scholarship for 2007 is Anthony Hoskins Student at NSU who is pursuing his masters degree in social work.

 

REQUIREMENTS:  

1. Scholarship must be used for higher education but not necessarily for colleges or universities.

2. Applicant must have performed community service.

3. Applicant's Grade Point Average must be at least a "C" or higher, or show potential for that level.

4. Applicant must be enrolled in a program and proof of enrollment is required.

5. Any monies are paid directly to the institution not to the student.

6. Applicant must meet with scholarship committee for an interview.

7. Applicants must write a one page essay (350 words), about why they want or need the money and what they intend to do with it. Also how homicide has affected their life, emotionally, spiritually and how it has affected their view of the criminal justice system.

8. Applicant must be a survivor of an attempted murder or relative of a victim of homicide or a friend of a homicide victim.

9. Applicant must be a resident of the Hampton Roads area but they do not have to necessarily attend a local institution to be eligible.

10. Recipient of the scholarship must allow VAC to use their name/name of the institution of higher learning and their career choice on their web page.
