A
place to come to talk to someone who understands
Homicide takes the life of its victim,
and it devastates the lives of family, friends, loved ones,
and the entire community. Since 1991 VAC has offered understanding,
support, information, education, and hope to the survivors
of homicide. VAC is a non-profit corporation and charges no
fees for its services.
VAC calls on volunteers “who
have been there” to offer individual and group peer
support during the time of bereavement. Where needed, VAC
calls on professional counselors and other community resources.
During Victim’s Rights Week, VAC sponsors a walk for
non-violence and a memorial service for homicide victims.
Also, during this week, funds are raised for higher education
scholarships for a friend or family member of a victim of
homicide.
VAC intervenes proactively to offer
prevention and early intervention services and to advocate
for non-violent responses to violence through a free summer
enrichment program for children. The summer enrichment program
teaches children conflict mediation, anti-bullying skills
and character building.
VAC believes in prevention of crime
and violence through education.
